My Non Toxic Laundry Essentials
As someone with sensitive skin, finding the right laundry detergent has always been a challenge—not just for my skin, but also for my nose. For years, I assumed I was just naturally reactive to certain fabrics or bedsheets. It wasn’t until about five years ago that I discovered the real culprit: traditional laundry detergents.
After doing a lot of independent research, I realized how many harmful chemicals are in most conventional detergents—and how they can linger in clothing and irritate sensitive skin. That’s when I made the switch to non-toxic options, and I haven’t looked back since.
One brand I swear by is Charlie’s Soap. It’s a powdered laundry detergent, which I actually prefer because I end up using much less product—and one bag lasts me forever. It’s gentle, effective, and doesn’t have that overpowering artificial scent that most detergents do.
I'm also very Type A when it comes to laundry. I typically do laundry twice a week and wash most of my clothes on a cold cycle to help preserve the fabric. For my delicates and activewear, I always air dry them to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
When it comes to stain removal, I use ECOS Stain Remover, which is plant-based and works surprisingly well. And when I want to give my laundry a little extra boost—especially if something needs freshening up—I’ll add a cup of white vinegar to the load. It’s a simple, natural trick that works like magic.
If you’re someone who struggles with skin sensitivity or just wants to make the switch to cleaner products, I highly recommend starting with your laundry routine. It’s one of the most overlooked sources of skin irritation—and changing it made a huge difference for me.
